The churchyard was very overgrown but obviously still in use as there was a gravestone just inside the entrance dating from 1984, seven years after the fire that destroyed the church.

A few of the older gravestones and monuments.

The wall of the church. The cross at the top is fairly new, as the ground is still consecrated. But the extent of the damage caused by the fire is easy to see.

The bricks around and above this window are blackened by flames.

The frame of the main window survived the fire, but the glass - which was probably stained - was destroyed. The brickwork around the top third looked newer than the stones used for the main construction. What was left of the church was thoroughly overgrown.

I almost fell down into this hole. What's left of the floorboards can be seen on the left. One surprising thing is the lack of litter - no empty drink cans, no cigarette ends, no old newspapers or food wrappers.

Another window showing the thickness of the walls, which probably helped keep the main structure standing as the fire raged.
